July 2009 Update
Pro-life Presence in Madison Continues

On June 17, Pro-Life Wisconsin and Vigil for Life of Madison co-hosted a pro-life rally at Meriter Hospital in Madison. The event was peaceful and prayerful. Fr. Eric Sternberg led the group in prayer. Over 120 people attended!
The Madison Surgery Center is a joint venture of UW Hospital and Clinics, the UW Medical Foundation, and Meriter Hospital. On February 6, the Madison Surgery Center (MSC) board voted to provide second trimester abortions on healthy and disabled babies at their 1 South Park Street location. An April 23 Associated Press article revealed the MSC has not yet begun performing abortions.
Additionally, in late April, Matt Bowman, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, finally received several volumes of emails and documents from the UW Medical Foundation. Because UW entities are public institutions, many of their emails are public record. The information in these previously secret documents is VERY encouraging. To read the emails, click here.
YOUR prayers and protests are having an effect!
Jeffrey Grossman, the head of the UW Medical Foundation, said in an e-mail between himself, the head of Meriter, and other administrators, including the abortionist Caryn Dutton and her boss, abortion enthusiast Laurel Rice, "We need to track cancellations as accurately as possible... When all this began I told Laurel and Caryn that we could not put our whole operation at economic risk to achieve their goals."
Emails show the administrators at UW scrambling to keep up with the public pressure that all of you have created against this late-term abortion plan in the past few months. They are frustrated that patients are calling to cancel appointments. Several doctors and entire physician groups have decided not to send their patients to the MSC, which is causing a major impact during this bad economy.
Please speak up for these babies today! Contact information for these institutions is available here.

Pro-Life Wisconsin is running pro-life TV commercials in the Madison area, urging viewers to choose life and oppose the MSC. You can view those commercials on PLW's NoUWabortions.com Web site.
Your increased involvement is needed now more than ever! What can you do?
On Pro-Life Wisconsin's NoUWabortions.com Web site, you can:
- Sign letter refusing treatment at the MSC;
- If you are an employee of UW or Meriter Hospital, download a letter refusing to participate;
- Sign petition opposing Madison Surgery Center late-term abortion center;
- Find contact information to call, email, or write in opposition to the Madison Surgery Center's late-term abortion center. Contact Meriter Hospital, UW Hospital, the UW Medical Foundation, and the Madison Surgery Center;
- Join us in prayer outside the Madison Surgery Center! Pro-Life Wisconsin's Dane County affiliate, along with Madison's Vigil for Life, prays outside the Madison Surgery Center on a regular basis. Trust us - this makes doctors, nurses, patients and patients' families uncomfortable; they do not want to identify themselves with a medical facility that performs abortions.
- Commit to support this highly effective campaign!
